Miami International Airport has officially unveiled its first private luxury terminal for commercial passengers. The facility, known as PS MIA, is housed within the historic former Pan American Airways regional headquarters at 4900 NW 36th Street, directly across from Miami Springs.
Operating under a competitive lease first opened for bidding by the county in 2021, the 34,000-square-foot terminal offers a complete bypass of the public airport. Travelers are chauffeured in BMW sedans directly across the active airfield to and from their commercial flights. The official ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on June 17, 2026, with reservations opening to the public for travel starting June 30, 2026.
The opening represents the fourth global location for PS, which began as The Private Suite at Los Angeles International Airport in 2017 and was acquired by airport operator Groupe ADP in 2024. The brand also debuted an outpost at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport earlier in June 2026. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava highlighted the dual benefit of premium service and historic preservation during the debut.
The mayor stated, "Today's opening of PS MIA marks a new chapter at MIA for residents and visitors seeking a concierge experience and more convenient way to fly." She added that the revitalization of the Pan Am terminal is especially exciting for preserving local aviation history.
Historically dubbed the "Taj Mahal" when it opened in 1963, the building has been a designated Miami-Dade County Historic Site since 2014. It had remained largely vacant since Pan Am shut down in 1991. Under the direction of historic preservation experts RJ Heisenbottle Architects and interior designer Cliff Fong, the restoration preserves the building's mid-century brutalist exterior while overhauling the interior. The design incorporates terrazzo, marble, and custom mid-century furnishings that nod to Palm Beach glamour.
Travelers can book either a spot in "The Salon", a shared social lounge, or one of five fully private residential-style suites. The luxury experience carries a high price tag, with non-member rates starting at $1,295 per visit. In exchange, guests access dedicated, on-site TSA screening and customs clearance, along with spa treatments, chef-prepared meals, and private showers.
The new facility enters a highly competitive Miami travel market at a time when the main airport is undergoing a broader $9 billion modernization plan. While MIA has experienced explosive passenger growth, standard frequent-flyer lounges face severe capacity constraints. PS MIA positions itself as a middle ground for affluent flyers who want to completely avoid public check-in halls and baggage claims.
Operations at the private terminal will fully commence at the end of the month, establishing a new operational model for premium ground handling at Florida's busiest international gateway.
